Obesity and Weight Loss

What is a Healthy Weight?

We use body composition analysis to assess your metabolic health. We determine weight, body fat, muscle and bone mass, body water content and visceral fat levels to determine your current health and monitor your progress.  When it comes to weight loss, it is more than just how may pounds you are.  We focus on improving body composition improvement.

Effects of Obesity

Obesity increases the risks of many different health problems. It also makes it harder for you to move and breathe. People with obesity are more likely to get diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and more. They also live less time than people of healthy weight. That's why it's important to try to keep your weight in a healthy range.

How to Lose Weight

Start by visiting a health care provider. They can help you do this in a healthy way and determine how many calories your body needs for energy. They can also provide motivation and support. Your weight loss plan should have a balance of calorie reduction and exercise. You also need a plan for what you will do to maintain your weight after reaching your goal.  If you don't respond well to standard treatments, we dig deeper than most primary care providers and other weight loss providers to help determine why you are not.

Can medicines help with weight loss?

In most cases, yes! Medications and supplements work by reducing
your appetite or by changing the way you digest food. Ask your
provider if you have not been able to lose weight with calorie reduction
and exercise and you:

  • Have a BMI of 30 or greater, or

  • Have a BMI between 27 and 29.9 and also have weight-related
medical problems, such as diabetes, heart disease, or high
    blood pressure.
